Drill bits make holes. Simple enough, but the shapes, sizes and precise location of said holes can make the difference between a guitar that sounds perfect, and one that is impossible to tune properly. Different style drill bits aren’t required, but help get the job done more efficiently rather than having a one size fits all approach.
Brad point drill bits offer a built-in guide with the small tip that helps center the drill bit as it cuts though wood. Forstner bits are perfect for making larger holes that also have a built-in guide to help center them. The standard drill bit is a “Jack of all trades” kind of bit that can be used in most any material. When working on any project remember this kids, a drill in hand is worth a spade in the chuck…. or something like that.
