Wood Routers – Featured Luthier Tools

Here at Shannon Guitars, the most crucial of all tools for creating guitars and lap steels is the wood router. The wood router allows carving of the cavities for pickups, controls, and also is critical for rounding edges, or hollowing out the bodies of the steels and guitars.

Routers come in all shapes and sizes. The most frequently used router here at Shannon Guitars is a combo router featuring a fixed base, or a plunge base router switchable determined by the job at hand. While some other companies use pin routers or CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) routers, but here stick to tradition making everything by hand… (Mostly cause them machines be spencive $$$)

Wood routers come in all the different price ranges, so if you are just starting out, a cheaper router is acceptable, but DO NOT cheap out on router bits. Cheap bits can, and have exploded causing problems for you, and the project you may be working on. Always remember to be safe and keep your finger. No one likes picking their nose with their elbows.
